Ranchi: St. Xavier’s School Doranda, Ranchi organized the 23rd CISCE Ranchi Zone Basketball Tournament 2019 on 19th and 20th August 2019.
The Inaugural Ceremony took place at 7.30 a.m. at St. Xavier’s School Doranda, Ranchi on 19th August 2019. Fr. Ajit Kumar Xess, S.J. the Principal welcomed the Chief Guest Mr. Anil Kumar Singh, IAS, Director, Sports and Games, Govt. of Jharkhand and thanked him for his availability to encourage the players in such occasions.
The Chief Guest in his inaugural address said that the sports and games are parts of our life. They teach us how to face the difficulties of our lives; we learn from sports how to overcome the touch situations of life. So, we should encourage the budding players in the field of sports. Further, he said that the students should excel not only in sports and games but also in their studies.
Class 11 students of St. Xavier’s School Doranda performed ‘Re More Sona Dharti’ Nagpuri Dance in the traditional costume of the Tribals. It was indeed a praiseworthy performance.
The closing ceremony was held at 3.00 p.m. on the following day 20th August 2019 at St. Xavier’s School Doranda where the Fr. Manoj Kullu, Principal of St. Francis School Harmu was the Chief Guest. There Guest of honours were Mr. Thonton, Principal Bishop Westcott Boys’ School Namkum, Mr. Joshi, the Principal Don Bosco Academy Mcluskygunj, Mrs. Edwin, Principal Bishop Westcott Girls’ School Doranda, Ms. Jacob, Principal Bishop Westcott Girls’ School Namkum, and the Organizing Secretary Mr. Harbhajan Singh (Basketball Olympian 1980) Vice President Jharkhand Basketball Association.
Fourteen students of class 11 (7 boys & 7 girls) performed a Tamil folk dance in a beautiful and attractive traditional dress of Tamils in the closing ceremony. The song described the beauty of a girl.
There were 25 teams of four different categories for the tournament, Three for Senior Boys, three for Senior Girls, Seven for Junior Boys and twelve for Junior Girls participated in the tournament.
In the Senior Boys category St. Xavier’s School Doranda defeated Don Bosco Kokar and became the winner in the Final. St. Xavier’s School Doranda beat Loreto Convent Doranda and become victor in the Senior Girls category. Junior Boys of St. Xavier’s School Doranda defeated St. Anthony School Doranda in the Final. Bishop Westcott Girls School Doranda defeated Don Bosco School Kokar in the Final.
The brand of St. Xavier’s School Doranda was felt in all the categories.
