Protest Against de-reservation of seats for Vice-chairman

Ranchi 6th September. Under the aegis of Adivasi Mahasabha, a public demonstration was staged in front of the Governor’s House in Ranchi against the de-reservation of all the vice-chairman’s position at all levels, in the Panchyat raj election. The speakers demanded the Governor, the custodian of Fifth Scheduled Areas to take appropriate action in this regard. As per the provision of the Fifth Schedule, no central law can be implemented in the Fifth Scheduled Area, and Governor after bringing necessary corrections and amendments can implement any act in these areas. The speakers were protesting the recent amendment that was passed in the Parliament, whereby, the posts of Vice-chairman in the scheduled areas have been de-reserved. Dr. Nirmal Minz said that according to the Panchayat Raj Extension in the Scheduled Areas Act (PESA) the traditional system of local governance must be recognized and no election is needed in these areas. Imposition of the election would supercede the traditional rule.
